The World's First Cittaslow Island

Gokceada is a member of cittaslow movement, the international network of cities where living is easy in the world. Gokceada is also the world's first and only slow island with the title of slow city.


Gokceada is the largest island located in the westernmost point of Turkey, also an official member of cittaslow movement. Its older name is known as Imbros.

Gokceada is a major tourist destination with its nostalgic houses, natural life, organic products and alternative sports facilities. Organic farming activities carried out in the island since 2002, and especially since 2008, thanks to the agricultural tourism in Gokceada offering guests a unique natural environment, is the world's first and only slow island with the title of slow city. Gokceada is the center of attention with its proximity to metropolitan cities such as Istanbul, Bursa and Izmir.

The island is one of the most ideal spots for windsurfing in the Aegean Sea, especially in recent years with several national and international organizations.

Gokceada is a unique holiday option that it has unspoilt nature, the most pleasant moments of history at every step and blended with organic products.

Gokceada is a piece of heaven with its natural beauties, you will witness here the silence is disturbed only with playful waves. You may sunbath on Kefalos and Aydincik beaches, located at the southern part of the island, or take a mud bath in the salt lake adjacent to the beaches, and if you are lucky enough, you may even spot some nesting flamingos.

Where to Go

Derekoy: Only a few decades ago Derekoy was the largest village in Turkey with its thousands of inhabitants and more than two thousand houses. However, today it is a deserted village with only five or ten Greek families left.

Zeytinlikoy: Zeytinlikoy is the most popular and the best protected village in Gokceada. Most of the houses in the village are repaired and inhabited. Zeytinlikoy, built at the side of a green hill views Gokceada center and the plain. Do not leave the village before you taste Madam's Dibek Coffee which continues hundred years of tradition.

Kalekoy: The most colorful and animated place in Gokceada is Kalekoy. Kalekoy is lively starting from late afternoon until late hours in the night, which offers picturesque landscapes for photography enthusiasts. There is a large choice of restaurants, bars, cafes, tea gardens in Kalekoy.
