Discover Ordu and peaceful slow towns
Persembe, which is a lovely fishing town on the Vona Peninsula of the Black Sea coast in Turkey, is also the first official cittaslow of Black Sea region. Located in Ordu province, the town is a quiet place for energetic people.
One of the important tourism destinations of the Black Sea, Persembe has also the title of slow city. The town, which has historical and natural beauties, is also famous for its abundance of agricultural products and fish diversity.
When you arrive the centre of town, you will be sure that this place is for you. You breath in clean air instead of exhaust smoke. You feel the smell of the sea and once again remember where you are. We highly recommend the seashore restaurants, bathed in a continuous sea breeze, that serve the delicious tastes of the Black Sea. Fantastic swimming options include the Caka Beach with its white sands and crystal clear waters as well as the beaches of Aktas, Efirli and Belicesu, and the Hoynat Island with its ancient ruins.
Hoynat Island, Cape Jason and Timsah Island are among the places that are frequently visited.
Jason Church: Jason Church is your first stop before the city centre. When you travel along the Black Sea, maybe the first time you will be seeing a historical site right on the coast. Watching the history yet from the entrance is making all the distances you have travelled return to you in the form of energy.
Hoynat Island: As you enjoy the curvy road leading to Persembe the next stop is Hoynat Island. In the old times, this place was used as a harbour. And today it still is but this time for the European shag (a large sea bird). It is the only place they nest in Turkey.
Kordon Hill: Do not miss to see Kordon Hill, where you can feel the smell of forests rather than the sea and hosts the town of Persembe on its skirts. It is a great pleasure to walk in the forest, especially if there is a wonderfull waterfall at the end. The streams running down between the hills add also richness to the land.
In Persembe, you can have a chance to eat lots of fruits from the trees in August. Two types of grapes, hazelnuts and figs are some of the these delicious fruits. The hazelnut gardens taking place all around the town are the most significant source of income for years. Persembe is also one of the best places for eating fish. In this fishing town, there are always people who want to fish along the coast.
